The next generation of Mazda vehicles will be inspired by the expression “new elegance” which is based on Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. As such, elegance will be brought to life through beautiful designs that are subtle and restrained yet rich and abundant, providing a sense of warmth and seductiveness. New elegance will be achieved with a “less is more” aesthetic.
The flowing, four-door coupe pays homage to classics that defined Mazda elegance. The VISION COUPE, which is fitted with revolutionary SKYACTIV-X engine technology, was revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Handcrafted bodywork provides contrasts of light and shade that create a sense of fluid movement.
In January 2018, it was named the “Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year” at the 33rd Festival Automobile International held in Paris, France. It was seen to be the car which embodies beauty, creativity in design and the latest trends, as chosen by a jury consisting of eminent architects and fashion designers amongst others. The Vision Coupe also won “Concept Car of the Year” at the 11th Car Design Night in Geneva, Switzerland on March 6.

‘KAI’ translates to ‘the pioneer’ and this next-generation vehicle is just that. Revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017, the KAI CONCEPT reflects an evolution of Mazda’s KODO Soul of Motion design. With bodywork that delivers a sense of power and agility, the KAI CONCEPT is also fitted with SKYACTIV-X engine technology, which reinforces Mazda’s commitment to its Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 vision.
The compact hatchback is characterized by clean, honed beauty free of extraneous elements, creating a strong and solid image. The interior design establishes a connection between driver and car with a natural-feeling environment that gently embraces cabin occupants without feeling overly restrictive.
This is set to be the new generation of the Mazda3, and will have its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28. Read more about the show in this Forbes Magazine article here.
The revolutionary powerplant known as the SKYACTIV-X engine is due to be released in 2019, making its launch as the world’s first commercial gasoline engine to run on compression ignition. Using innovative technology, Mazda has combined the power of a high-revving gasoline engine and the fuel efficiency of a diesel. The Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) improves engine efficiency by up to 20-30 percent over the current SKYACTIV-G engines.
These advances in engine technology will play a significant part in Mazda’s ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030’ vision. With the release of SKYACTIV-X, reducing carbon dioxide emissions to 50 percent of 2010 levels by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 will be an achievable goal.
